Carnival Cruise Lines Denies Rumors of Banning Rap Music

Carnival Cruise Lines has officially responded to viral social media claims alleging the company has banned rap music from being played on its ships. According to a statement released Tuesday, the cruise line says the rumors are false and that no such policy exists.
“We do not ban or limit specific music genres, including rap or hip-hop,” said Matt Lupoli, Senior Manager of Public Relations at Carnival. “Our DJs are free to play what’s popular and what our guests enjoy, as long as it fits within a respectful and family-friendly atmosphere.”
The controversy began after a TikTok video gained traction showing a cruise party where pop and country music were being played. The video suggested that Carnival had imposed a ban on rap music, sparking backlash from thousands of users across platforms like TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram.
Some users accused the cruise line of cultural censorship. Others posted video evidence from recent cruises showing DJs playing rap hits by artists such as Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Latto, contradicting the ban rumors.
The misunderstanding appears to stem from recent updates to Carnival’s guest conduct policies. These include a daily limit of 15 alcoholic drinks for guests with drink packages, a ban on items such as clacking handheld fans due to noise and safety concerns, and an emphasis on respectful behavior in shared public spaces. However, none of these updated rules reference or target any specific music genres.
“We’ve made a few changes to ensure guest safety and comfort, but we continue to offer a wide range of music that reflects our diverse guest base,” Lupoli added.
Carnival has long featured a variety of music styles on board, including hip-hop, EDM, reggae, Latin, jazz, and pop. The cruise line says it encourages DJs and performers to adapt to the preferences of each crowd.
Despite the backlash, Carnival reports no official complaints related to music bans and says it will continue to provide entertainment tailored to its audience.
While some users remain skeptical, many have rallied behind the company, sharing positive cruise experiences that included rap-heavy playlists and themed dance nights.
“Carnival always had the best parties on deck,” one user posted. “People really believe anything on TikTok.”
As misinformation continues to spread rapidly online, the company urges guests to refer directly to Carnival’s website or official channels for policy updates.
Carnival Cruise Lines has clarified that rap music is not being banned aboard its ships. The company maintains it will continue offering diverse music programming to meet the tastes of its passengers.
