Snoop Dogg Fights to Shut Down $100 Million Death Row Lawsuit
Snoop Dogg is pushing back hard against a massive $100 million lawsuit filed against him and Death Row Records.
Lydia Harris, ex-wife of Death Row co-founder Michael “Harry-O” Harris, has accused Snoop, Suge Knight, Interscope Records, Time Warner, and Universal Music Group of dodging a $107 million judgment awarded to her in 2005. She claims the defendants conspired to prevent her from collecting, despite her alleged $1.5 million investment in launching the label back in 1989.
Snoop, who now owns Death Row Records, has filed a motion to dismiss, arguing the claims are long past the statute of limitations. His legal team also painted Harris as a “bad faith litigant,” accusing her of using the legal system for harassment, saying she’s continued a “pattern” of similar behavior in California and has now brought the fight to Texas.
So far, the court has not ruled on Snoop’s motion, and the other named parties have not commented publicly.
Harris is demanding punitive damages, repayment of assets, and a full audit of Death Row’s finances. Though she originally won her case in 2002, she’s yet to collect, due to the label changing hands multiple times since the ruling.
Meanwhile, Suge Knight—currently serving time—has taken shots at Snoop in an interview with The Art of Dialogue, questioning his ownership of Death Row.
“Snoop, you said I’m mad because you bought Death Row? What’d you buy? Show me the paperwork,” Suge said, dismissing Snoop’s efforts to revive the label. He criticized Snoop’s previous roles with Def Jam and his Doggystyle label, claiming he’s “disappointing the world by making everything flops.”
