Young Thug Breaks Silence on His Relationship With Gunna: ‘That’s What Everyone’s Been Wondering’

Young Thug Breaks His Silence on Gunna: "I Know Everybody Wonders"
After months of speculation, cryptic lyrics, and icy silence, Young Thug has finally spoken — albeit briefly — about where he stands with Gunna, his longtime collaborator and fellow YSL artist.
In a new interview with GQ published on April 25, Thug was directly asked about his current relationship with Gunna. The question came on the heels of a swirl of rumors and social media theories that the two had fallen out after Gunna’s controversial release from jail in late 2022.
Thug’s answer? Not exactly what fans were hoping for.
"I know everybody wonders [what our relationship is like now]," he said. Then, with a pause that said more than words ever could, he added: "I don’t know."
The ambiguity only fueled the fire.
That same day — though the interview had been conducted weeks earlier — Thug released a new single titled "Money On Money" featuring Future. The high-energy track marked a sonic return to form, but it was the lyrics that got people talking. In the song, Thug takes aim at betrayal and perceived disloyalty, dropping pointed lines that many believe are aimed squarely at Gunna.
“These fuck n-ggas tellin’ for nothin’, and I gotta be the one callin’ ’em friends,” he raps on the hook.
And it doesn't stop there. In a later verse, he continues:
“Brother, you a rat (My brother)... Twin, you a rat, you smoked, uh.”
This isn’t the first time Thug has hinted at a deepening rift. A while back, he shared a snippet on Instagram featuring the lyrics:
“Never associate with a rat / Go and get some money, get a pack.”
Fans quickly assumed it was a jab at Gunna, who has been fighting back against public accusations of being a "snitch" after taking an Alford plea in the YSL RICO case — a controversial legal move where a defendant maintains innocence while acknowledging prosecutors have enough evidence to convict.
Gunna has consistently denied turning on Young Thug or doing anything to harm his case. His former attorney, Steve Sadow, even released a lengthy statement clarifying the facts:
"Gunna did NOT cooperate, and did NOTHING and said NOTHING to cause harm to Thug’s case. He spent 8 months in jail and was released in Dec. 2022 after entering an Alford plea. Gunna’s plea could not and was not used at Thug’s trial and he was never even named as a witness."
Sadow went on to emphasize the difference in their legal outcomes: Gunna, now touring and living freely, received a five-year suspended sentence with no probation or restrictions. Thug, on the other hand, served 30 months in jail and later accepted a 15-year probation sentence — and is barred from living in Atlanta.
"THOSE THAT HAVE AND CONTINUE TO BAD MOUTH GUNNA, GET OVER IT. NUFF SAID,” Sadow wrote.
Despite the legal explanations and Gunna's public denials, the rift appears real — if not fully explained. Thug’s latest comments, or lack thereof, leave more questions than answers.
Is there a path back for the once-inseparable YSL brothers? Or is this the final nail in the coffin of one of hip-hop’s tightest collaborations?
Only time — and possibly more lyrics — will tell.
