Curtains Close Early: Sean Kingston Blocked from Performing Ahead of Sentencing

Milwaukee, WI — Sean Kingston will not be performing at this year’s Summerfest after a federal judge denied his request to travel for the event while out on bond. The denial comes as the singer awaits sentencing following a federal wire fraud conviction earlier this year.

According to AllHipHop, Kingston’s legal team petitioned the court to allow the one-night trip, emphasizing that the concert did not involve a nightclub environment and would provide the artist with a legitimate opportunity to earn income under his current travel restrictions. His attorney argued that Kingston has remained in full compliance with all bond conditions, including GPS monitoring, and was prepared to submit a detailed travel itinerary and maintain communication with his probation officer throughout the trip.

Despite these assurances, Judge David Leibowitz denied the request without issuing a formal comment or explanation.

Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, and his mother, Janice Turner, were found guilty in March of one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud. Each charge carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

The case against the 34-year-old singer began with a civil suit filed by Ver Ver Entertainment LLC, which accused him of defrauding the company out of over $100,000 in high-end electronics. The suit alleged Kingston promised to promote the items via social media posts and video content featuring pop star Justin Bieber, with whom he collaborated on the 2010 single “Eenie Meenie.”

Kingston reportedly made an initial payment of $30,000 and committed to a second payment of $47,000, with the remainder to be settled through promotional content. However, after the goods were delivered and installed, he allegedly failed to make further payments or fulfill the promotional agreement.

In May 2024, Kingston and Turner were arrested during a raid at his Florida home, which uncovered what authorities described as a broader wire fraud operation. Turner was described in court documents as her son’s “operator, fixer, and accountant,” and is alleged to have played a central role in the scheme. She also has a prior history of fraud-related convictions.

Sentencing for both Kingston and Turner is scheduled for August 15.
